Martin Torres, VP and Program Chair

Our May 2008 meeting is on Thursday, May 8th in the Boise City Library Auditorium at 6:30 P.M. We would ask you to please use the southwest door (The Anne Frank plaza side) to the auditorium for easy access. After our president, Brian Aldridge, opens the meeting and presents the evening’s announcements, there will be a short question and answer period. So, if you have any hardware or software issues you need a quick answer for, this is the place to ask. Ed Hawley has been unable to be our group Secretary for some time now and has resigned. We will be asking for a volunteer to fill this position at our next meeting so you are willing to help, please contact Brian or one of the other officers.

After the Q&A session, our night’s presentations will lead off with Martin Torres doing a short demonstration of PHOTOME, a free for downloading, tool that lets you view everything you ever wanted to know about your photographs. PHOTOME not only lets you view the normal EXIF data created for each picture in a digital camera, but also the METADATA that expands the basic EXIF information out to pages of information that can show you when your camera was manufactured, the firmware revision ins use, and much more. The download is available at http://www.photome.de/download_en.html. Be sure to read get both downloads if you need them.

After the presentation on PHOTOME, we’ll continue with a how-to on installing, updating, and configuring anti-virus software. This topic was suggested by one our members at a previous meeting and will be a good refresher on the care and feeding of one of the most important software packages you can install on your PC.

We will take a break about 8 PM where you can renew or join and pick up a ticket for tonights drawing.

Following the General Meeting, several of our members travel to Quinn’s on Vista for a post meeting get together for refreshments and fellowship.

I encourage everyone to present any idea that you feel would be interesting as a possible presentation topic. All suggestions will be taken seriously and will be considered for a future meeting. If you have any suggestions that you would like to submit, feel free to e-mail them to mlt1@yahoo.com.

This month’s regular Saturday morning no host breakfast will be held at the Golden Corral on Emerald beginning at 9 AM, on May 10th. This is a great chance to discuss computer or computer related issues over a good meal.

Finally, don’t forget the IPCUG Board Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month and are open to all IPCUG members. The meeting is held at Elmer’s at 1385 S. Capitol Blvd, just below the hill. Many of us come early, about 6 PM for a no host dinner, great food and conversation prior the Board Meeting which starts promptly at 7 PM.
