• Office 12 Home Edition • WordPerfect® 12

  •  WordPerfect® 12 – Home Edition • A word processor rich with features for creating great looking documents including résumé’s and newsletters.  On opening WordPerfect, you can choose from one of three modes of WordPerfect, WordPerfect 5.1 or Microsoft Word. You can open and work with Microsoft® Word files and then save them back as Word documents.  WordPerfect at one time owned the wordprocessing world and for good reasons, it was simply the best, most powerful and some would say, the most easiest to use; everyone used it.  But along came Windows and WordPerfect floundered for reasons I won't go into here.   WordPerfect has survived those rough waters and offers all the power and ease of use along with more features that the original WordPerfect had.  It is still the choice of its loyalists along with lawyers, writers, and the medical profession where it has a very strong following.  The release of Home Edition and the Small Business Edition application suites, Corel is taking a big step in making WordPerfect® 12 along with its companion products in each suite, available at a very affordable price.
  
  There are a lot neat features in WordPerfect® 12, features that may not be new in the version, but have been improved and enhanced.  Things like the shadow cursor and the WordPefect® PerfectExpert that will get you started and help you along the way in putting the finishing touches on your document.  If you haven't seen the shadow cursor, it is a feature which allows you to cursor anywhere on even a blank page and start typing without first having to hit enter numerous times or the tab key, really great for quickly composing a document.   WordPerfect is a "stream" "code" driven document system versus a paragraph formatted system such as Word.  In using "codes," WordPerfect leaves the competition in the dust.  Every formatting operation you do in WordPerfect is represented by a code and given the "stream" nature of the WordPerfect Document, you can quickly change fonts, tab formats, margins for the whole document by doing this only once and not having to go through an arduous select all function, which on a large document can take a lot of time.  Using WordPerfect's reveal code split screen display where the codes are shown at the bottom of the document, allowing you to easily edit, remove, or insert text at code markers as well as manipulate graphics and text boxes.  I realize that the reveal code feature may be something that is lost on non-WordPerfect users who have never seen it, but once you have used it, you would never go back to any other word processor program because no other program has this kind of functionality.  Finally, WordPerfect has a built-in PDF writer that allows you to publish PDF documents without having to buy Adobe®’s Acrobat Writer product.
  
  In the proofing and polishing department,  WordPerfect 12 offers an array of tools including as-you-go Spelling and Grammatik based Grammar checking along with an outstanding online Thesaurus.  You can customize your working environment in one location. One evidence of this is the number of keyboard layouts that you can select, which include WPWin versions 8 through 12, WP Dos versions 5.1, 6.1, plus MS Word 2000 and 2002!
  
  A couple of notes.  WordPerfect® 12 Home Edition is for home use only in that it has a “limited use” license and use in a business environment is prohibited by that license.  Second, some of the features of WordPefect 12 Standard is not available.  Features removed include some import/export filters, visual basic scripting, legal tools, and Document Comparing, Redlining, and Routing.  The loss of these features is a small price to pay for everything you get in the Office 12 Home Edition which costs less than WordPerfect Office 12 Standard Edition.
